Noise Aesthetics
Visual exploration into the aesthetic language of noise, glitches and interferences. To introduce these intentional flaws, scientific experiments related to randomness and probability are used as a source of unpredictability. Visually, these devices are presented as impossible objects that can exist in an imagined space.
Device #1:
AHA-HUH Two mirrored objects, a real one and a simulation, both exist at the same time; an uncertainty leading to noise generation. The state of objects are never certain until they are observed.
Device #2:
MAGNETIC NOISE FEEDER An object that detects noise from the randomness and chaos from the environment and feeds it into the ‘perfect’ communication signal being transmitted through the cable.
Device #3:
QUANTUM FLUCTUATION BIN The bin emits particles of quantum fluctuations (where energy can change uncertainly at a point in space, violating all the known principles of the conservation of energy). This disrupts the visual reality of what we see in our own environment.
Device #4:
NEURON FIRE EXTINGUISHER This device senses brain activity and picks up glitches from our minds. It then uses that noise to interrupt our otherwise perfect communications world.
